Musk’s Sausages

Recently I was very lucky enough to win a variety box of Musk’s Sausages via a simple #RTtoWin competition held by @MusksSausages on Twitter.

My prize was delivered very quickly and every effort made to keep the products fresh and cool during delivery.

About Musk’s

Musk’s Newmarket sausages are made to the original recipe created by James Musk in 1884.

Most sausages available on the market contain rusk but Musk’s Newmarket sausages are made with bread, which is delivered daily by local bakeries, and it is this gives that them the succulence for which they are renowned.

The meat used in Musk’s sausage products is prime British pork shoulder, which comes from fully traceable pigs reared on Red Tractor Assured farms.

All varieties have received recognition from the Guild of Fine Food Retailers by being awarded their Gold Award

Musk’s have been a favourite of the Royal family for generations, having been the proud holder of four Royal Warrants during its history.

Included in the variety box….

Original Newmarket sausages

Traditionally made small batches, using fully traceable pork shoulder meat from British pigs, locally baked bread and a secret blend of spices encased in a natural skin to retain the succulence for which Musk’s sausages are renowned.

This recipe is the base for all Musks products.

Original Newmarket Sausage-meat

Perfect for making homemade sausage rolls or scotch eggs

Scotch Eggs

  • Musk Sausage meat 454g
  • 7 eggs
  • Herbs/Spices, I used parsley, thyme and a little chilli
  • Flour
  • Approx 100g Breadcrumbs

Put 6 of the eggs into a pan of cold water and bring to the boil. Boil for 4 to 5 minutes, then transfer to a bowl of cold/ice water. Once cooled, carefully peel them.

Put the sausage meat into another bowl with the herbs/spices. Give it all a good mix together then divide into 6 balls.

Beat the last egg and place in a bowl

Have two other bowls ready, one with a small handful of flour, and one containing the breadcrumbs.

Flour your hands and in the palm of one hand, flatten out one of the sausage balls into an oval-shaped pattie.

Then Roll a peeled egg in flour, put it in to the middle of the pattie.

Gently shape the meat evenly around the egg , I found gentle rolling helped.

Then roll the meat-wrapped egg in the flour and then dip into the beaten egg, followed by rolling in the breadcrumbs, making sure to get a good coating all around

Heat the oil in a deep pan or deep fat fryer to about 150ºC/300ºF.

Carefully lower the eggs into the pan and cook for about 4 minutes, turning them every so often, until golden.

Remove and drain on kitchen paper. I then popped them in a hot oven for a couple of minutes.

Musks Sausage products can be purchase online from, and most supermarkets, prices range from just £3.
